FKIN (A)rt Friday

Thanks to an Instagram post by sex educator Elle Chase @theellechase reposted from sex therapist Cyndi Darnell @cyndi_darnell and sexologist  Catherine O'Dowd @catherine_sextherapist, a short 'n' sweet FKIN (Art Friday.

The original Instagram post of a censored vs uncensored "Girl with Mandolin" by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, is what inspired this Erotic Intent post. Googling, we found a funny/sad 2015 story on Slate about Fox News censoring an image of Picasso's Les Femmes d’Alger (version O) during their announcement that Picasso's Les Femmes d’Alger (version O) just sold for $179.35.

What's so funny/sad is that Fox censors where clutching their pearls over a CUBIST painting! The eyes roll. In any case, that was a good jumping off point to see what else we could google. The fruits of our labor are below.

Read the Slate story "What Masterpieces of Art History Would Look Like Censored by a Local News Station"  on the censoring of the Picasso on Fox News (which includes a slew of works hilariously censored by Slate).

Below are a few censored images of erotic, sensual and perfectly respectable works of art and a link to a BuzzFeed examples of censored art, though the story is without context-doesn't say who did the censoring. For efficiency's sake, we'll just call this the Karen Pence Collection for sadly obvious reasons.

Censored Titian Venus of Urbino

Venus of Urbino by Titan, 1534. This censored version was found in an article about Mark Twain's commentary on varisous classic works of art, in which he called this painting ""the foulest, the vilest, the obscenest picture the world possesses" (obviously in a world before Twitter). This censored version was from  a BuzzFeed post titled "18 Famous Artworks Censored For Your Protection."

Censored Renaissance

The Birth of Venus, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, 1879
